Mount Ena 2190m is one of the 100 famous mountains and an easy dayhike in Gifu. The actual peak is forested but there is an open section with views and some big rocks by the shelter. The trail up is interesting and a little strenuous and makes for a great nature escape from the city.

Access
Car
Park your car at Hirogawara parking lot. The parking lot isn't that big and often fills up. Since the road is one lane and narrow parking can be difficult on nice weekends. The parking lot has a toilet, but as of 05.24 it's closed and locked.
Public transportation
There is no public transportation access for Enasan. You can take a bus to Sonohara, but it's still about 6km to the trailhead.
Trail description
Start your hike by walking up along the old forest road. It takes about 30-40min to get to a small turn off on the left down to the river. Cross the makeshift bridge and then start your hike up to Mt. Ena.
The trail is not exposed or difficult but definitely steep with roots and small wooden ladders.
On the way up are a couple of sections with nice views of the surrounding peaks but for the most part you'll be in the forest.
Once you get to the peak you can climb up the little view tower but I recommend continuing another 10 min to the shelter hut and to climb the rocks behind it. On a clear day you can see the southern alps and Mt. Fuji.
Have your lunch on the rocks and then make your way back down.
Because of the low elevation this hike is best walked in spring and fall. Summer would be quite hot.
Accomodation
There is a small free shelter hut and pit toilet 10min after the peak. The shelter has a room with a wood stove and a seperate sleeping room. Room for about 10 people.
