Mountain rescue in Japan is not free, so if you're ever in need of help it can get expensive fast. Average cost is around 400.000Yen (3000USD)

For residents of Japan I recomend COCO HELI which comes with a rescue beacon. I personally use this insurance and it has a good reputation. The price with 5500Y anually is also quite resonable.

For international tourists Yamakifu has a short term/per day insurance.

Internationally Global Rescue offers a rescue package, but I have no experience with them so please do some research first.
